ManpowerGroup Partners to Educate the Next Generation of Wind Technicians

A key milestone has been reached in the Nordic collaboration between Energy Innovation Global and ManpowerGroup. After one year of close cooperation, Patric Palm of ManpowerGroup and Frank Emil Moen, CEO of Energy Innovation AS, signed a formal framework agreement marking the launch of the Wind Technician Academy. This joint initiative is designed to address the rapidly growing skills demand within the wind energy sector.

-The Wind Technician Academy represents a new model for skills development in the renewable energy sector, where we connect industry needs with practical training and real candidate follow-up. This is an important step toward making wind power an accessible and attractive career path for many more people,” says Frank Emil Moen, CEO, Energy Innovation AS.

A Milestone in an Important Skills Partnership
The Wind Technician Academy is a pilot program in which ManpowerGroup is responsible for sourcing and attracting candidates, while Energy Innovation delivers specialized technical training. Together, the partners support candidates throughout the entire education and training journey, with the objective of creating a robust pipeline of qualified professionals for the rapidly expanding wind industry.

The framework agreement covers the entire ManpowerGroup Nordic region and represents a strategic shift toward more integrated and sustainable workforce solutions. The first pilot will target personnel working in Sweden, with the ambition to scale the model across the Nordic region and globally.

Training for the pilot phase will take place at Energy Innovation’s facilities in Norway, while scaled delivery will be facilitated through Energy Innovation’s global franchise network.

-We are very pleased to have this framework agreement in place. This is an important step in building a future workforce for renewable energy. Together, we combine global reach with local insight and technical expertise, says Steinar Instefjord, Director, Sustainable Business Development, ManpowerGroup Norway.

An Acute Need for New Skilled Professionals
According to the Global Wind Organisation and the Global Wind Energy Council, more than 500,000 wind technicians will be needed by 2028, with over 40% required to be newly recruited personnel. This highlights the urgent need for new education models and recruitment strategies, particularly in Europe, where the wind sector is expected to create over 200,000 new jobs by 2030.

The Wind Technician Academy is a concrete response to this challenge, demonstrating how collaboration between industry and education providers can deliver solutions that are both scalable and sustainable.

Increasing Visibility of Career Opportunities in Renewable Energy
Despite the significant growth in the wind sector, recent reports from Green Alliance UK, WindEurope, and the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) show that many young jobseekers are unaware of career opportunities within renewable energy. There is limited visibility around education pathways, entry requirements, and job content, particularly for technical and vocational roles.

To succeed in the green transition, stronger bridges must be built between commercial actors, academia, and the public sector, making it easier for individuals to understand how they can become part of the future energy workforce.

The Wind Technician Academy is an example of how such partnerships can create accessible and relevant career pathways.

In addition to Frank Emil Moen, Patric Palm, and Steinar Instefjord, the following individuals have also played key roles in the collaboration: Mia Kartal, Project Solution Lead, ManpowerGroup; Steven Kjørmo, COO; and Krzysztof Komorowski, Senior Content Manager, Energy Innovation AS.
